Research - Girl Bands
I have asked a band from Unsigned.com called 4Flava to use their track/song 'Untouchabled' to create our music. Due to the fact that it is a Girl Band of four, I have decided to research mainstream bands (past and present) or a similar criteria. Brief History A girl group is a popular music act featuring several young female singers who generally harmonize together. Girl groups emerged in the late 1950s as groups of young singers teamed up with behind-the-scenes songwriters and music producers to create hit singles, often featuring glossy production values and backing by top studio musicians. In later eras the girl group template would be applied to disco, R&B, and country- based formats as well as pop music.

Legal Documentation - Asking For The Song

Stage 4 Visit To Judge Homes
I think I'll call this the waiting game.We have asked a few artists if we could you there tracks. All we can do is sit and wait. If you think about it, this happens in the X-Factor the contestants have to wait and see if they are through to the live finals. This time round the judges (myself and Pui San) and waiting on the artists (contestants).
Our destiny of getting the opportunity to use there song lies in there hands and not the other way round If we don't get this there will be no final/live show ... or should I say final project.

Stage 3 - Boot Camp
Stage 3 - Boot Camp
Country and Rock Artists have been cut!
We are still trying to narrow down our choices. The reason this has taken so long is because in addition to listening to the songs we are trying to figure out what we can make of them. At the same time we are trying to find out what locations we can use, the props needed is necessary, the appropriate people to feature in the video and much more. Basically we are thinking in the world of 'Mise-en-Scene' - 'What Is In The Frame.' Most importantly we need the permission from the artist in order to use there song. I have created an e-mail I just need to send it to the artists.

On Friday we watched a few music videos created by students from previous years. In doing so it allowed us to understand what was good and what was not so good.

Stage 2 - The Judges Auditions
STAGE 2: The Judges Auditions
We made some cuts in regards to the type of genre to create the music video. We decided that a Rap song maybe too difficult to lip sync to and doing a slow song will mean more emphasis on the video. By this I mean that the lyrics and visual image must compliment each other more. We are now left with a few country and rock artists. There are many more R'n'B, Hip-Hop and Pop artists in the running.
In order to make sure that we have selected the right track, our classmates have also to listened to the songs and selected a few of their favorites. This is done to ensure that we are not creating a music video because we like the tracks we have selected but suit a wide rage of audiences. In fact its like this years X-Factor auditions which take place in front of a live audience.
Our special guest judge would be Mr Johnson as he will determine whether or not our track is suitable for a music video. I guess we can call him the Simon Cowelll of the group.
Judges Comments
'I think a fast song may be a challenge but it is easier to do as you have more ideas. Don't let me put you off but a slow song is boring unless you can create a memorable video'
'The tracks you have chosen are very girl y and considering you are girls I think you could make a good job of it'
'To be honest I don't like the tracks you have chosen, they seem all the same ... how can I put it cheesy pop music. They all have the same beat/instrumental, similar voices. I think you should have a change in genre maybe Rock, Punk, Indie. Give it a go, you'll never no'.
