The Video Music Awards - VMA's 2009

Last week hosted by Russel Brand (again) the VMA's was on. Considering I'm doing a Music Video I thought this would be a great chance to see which artists/bands win the prestigious awards.

The opening of the show was a tribute to the late great, king of pop Micheal Jackson. The tribute came to together as a group of professional dancers created a montage of Jacksons infamous dance moves and tracks. This was followed by a performance from Janet, whereby she danced to along with the Scream video which she and her brother featured in.

The first award went to Taylor Swift for her video'You Belong with Me' as the 'Best Female Video'. Its good for her to nominated but not to win I believe that there were other nominee's for this award such as Beyonce and Nelly Furtado. However, congratulations Taylor for you first VMA Award.

The 'Best Rock Video' was appointed to 'Green Day - 21 Guns'. I'm not a fan of the songs but I guess its not about the song it's more about the video. I enjoyed the other nominee's songs rather than their video (Kings Of Leon, Paramore and Fall Out Boy).

Lady Gaga the had an amazing performance with her track 'Paparazzi'.

Best Pop Video was given to 'Britney Spears' for her track 'Womanizer'. Although she was on tour and unable to receive the prize, I suppose this pop princess/diva deserve this award. She's been through alot.

After receiving their award Green Day performs. They rock out.

The time came and Beyonece performed her track 'Single Ladies'. I must admit I was expecting more but she still claimed the stage.

'T.I featuring Rihanna' won the award for 'Best Male Artist - Live Your Life'. Although he was also absent from the show his video told as story. If was a good idea to follow when creating my video.

I was not familiar with the next band but 'Muse' did perform on e of their tracks.

The 'Best Hip-Hop Video' went to 'Emienem' for his come back song 'We Made You'. The video showed aspects of postmodernism as it reflected the news and events of celebrities e.g. Brett Micheal's show Rock of Love, Jesscia Simpson's weight gain and issues around Kim Kardashian.

The votes have been counted and verified and I can now announce the winner of 'Best Newcomer' goes to ... (drum role please) ... (wait for it) ... 'Lady Gaga'. Gaga really deserved this award as she has released four tracks from her album each with different videos which are amazing.

The risk taker of the show was Pink when she performed her track Sober. It would have been good if she had won an award whether it be for 'Funhouse, Sober, Please Don't Leave or So What' Just like Gaga each video is designed differently.

About time she got an award. 'Beyonce' received an award for 'Video Of The Year' for the amazing song 'Single Ladies'. This was well deserved. She makes amazing videos.

The moment we have all been waiting for. The arrival of 'Jay-Z'. He sure did make an entrance as the cameras followed his every move from getting out the car to the stage. I must admit the performance was amazing with a hint of Alicia Keys in the chorus. 'Empire State Of Mind' a good collaboration of two great artists.

The final performance was a trailer of MJ's 'This Is It Tour'

The VMA's was a good show see you next year hopefully with Justin Timberlake and many more artists/bands.
